Men's Mental Health Awareness Cycle Challenge

During the most recent lockdown I set myself the challenge of cycling the distance from our home ground at Overstenton to Ibrox stadium, on to Tannadice Stadium and back to Overstenton. The aim was to help raise funds for our club's Men's Wellbeing Group and to help raise awareness for Men's mental health in general.

Before I explain more, I would like to begin by saying a big thank you to everyone who supported me both financially and mentally during the challenge. It was tough at times, but with your support I managed to get through it - so thank you to everyone!

During the challenge I was asked some questions about my motivation for it and why I chose the particular route and destinations. Let me explain.

Three times as many men die from suicide than women each year - a staggering statistic. Men worry and are affected by stress just as much as women, but tend to hide their feelings more and will often not share this with anyone else. This stress can build to dangerously high levels over time and can make a person feel that they have no options left until ultimately, and sadly, some decide to take their own lives. Modern life and the struggles that come with it, and especially during the current crisis the World is experiencing, can make life not worth living for some - which is a travesty. But there is always hope and help available.

The Glenrothes Strollers Community Club established a Men's Mental Wellbeing Group in 2020. The group is free for all attendees and is open to any male who wants to socialise with other like minded individuals. It can be as simple as coming along to have a cuppa and a chat, a game of footie, or simply a walk round the park. The numbers have been growing slowly week by week but, unfortunately, the country lockdowns have meant that the usual fundraising efforts that we undertake to help pay for such groups have had to stop for the time being. It is a cause that is close to my heart and something that I feel is important to have in our community.

The reason for the football stadium destinations was due to the connection to football that a lot of men have on a weekly basis, travelling the country to support their team. So may men attend football on a Saturday to release some of the built up stress of the week and to have their time away from the madness of the world and cheer on their favourites. It is a means of escaping the thoughts and feelings that may dominate their minds during the course of the week without them even realising it.

Clearly, due to the current pandemic the majority of those fans haven't been in a stadium for over a year, so my journey was for those men in my life who are missing those days that they once enjoyed so much. Hopefully it won't be long before they are allowed back.

During my challenge, I virtually visited 30 football grounds, most of which have thousands of people inside them one day of the week for most of the year, so this was for those people. My journey was for them all!

Here's the full list of the grounds I passed on my journey - maybe one day I will be able to cycle it for real, rather than on a spin bike in my bedroom!

Overstenton - Glenrothes Strollers
Central Park - Cowdenbeath
New Central Park - Kelty
East End Park - Dunfermline
Fleet Gound - Rosyth
Broxburn Athletic
Tony Macaroni Arena - Livingston
Central Park - Whitburn
Hannah Park - Shotts Bon Accord
Fir Park - Motherwell
Fountain of Youth Stadium - Hamilton
Celtic Park
Hampden Park
Ibrox Stadium
Firhill Stadium - Partick
Cliftonhill Stadium - Albion Rovers
Excelsior Stadium - Airdrie
Broadwood Stadium - Clyde
Falkirk Stadium - Falkirk
Forthbank Stadium - Stirling Albion
Indodrill Stadium - Alloa
McDairmid Park - St Johnstone
Farquharson Park - Scone Thistle
Thompson Park - Lochee Utd
Lochee Park - Dryburgh Athletic
Dens Park - Dundee
Tannadice Park - Dundee United
The Canniepart - Tayport
The Clayton - St Andrews
Bayview Stadium - East Fife
Memorial Park - Thornton Hibs

Finally, to everyone, IT'S OK NOT TO BE OK - please tell someone if you are struggling. There is always someone to help.

Anyone wishing to donate, you still can. Thank you.

S.F.A and S.Y.F.A Guidelines for Returning to Training

The S.F.A and S.Y.F.A. announcement on guidelines for grassroots football returning to training has been made and this is how it looks.

To get back to training I must let you all know that initially it will be Under 17s groups first and they will be in no more than groups of ten with two coaches. Adults will begin training in groups of up to five.

The sessions will be one per week at present and may have to be shortened for the first few weeks as coaches will have to clean equipment between sessions.

Only coaches will be able to administer life-saving first aid, so parents will be asked to stay in their cars in the car park.

There will be a very strict toilet procedure with a one way system into the building and one way out. This will all be marked out for players to follow and it will be strictly one player in the toilet at a time. Hand gels will be located at the entrance to the building, with hand washing sinks in the toilets and hand gel on exiting the building. Hand hygiene signage will be visible throughout the building, so please follow the instructions shown.

The building will not be used for anything else at present during training sessions.

Players must come to training ready to start with their own water bottle marked with their name on it. Allocation of an area where water bottles are to be kept during training will be specified by coach prior to starting.

Cleaning of toilets and walk ways will be on a schedule and done at regular intervals.

Coaches will be required to take a register at all sessions and this will have to be kept at the pavilion for the trace and protect scheme. Please make sure your coach has an up to date phone number for you in case you need to be contacted.

Coaches will be limited as to what drills they can do given the amount equipment being required during training to be cut back due to cleaning requirements, so please bear with them as they will be doing their best.

My Club Hub details will need to be updated with player’s medical information as soon as possible, prior to recommencing training.

We will continue to give you as much information as possible in the lead up to returning, in due course. We are aiming and preparing now to return on or after 20th of July. Please note, our two youngest groups (Joe’s and 2013) will be returning at a later date due to current Scottish Government guidelines.

Returning to training will be dependent on coach’s availability given that it’s the summer holidays now and people have been working through the crisis and will need a little rest.

Thank you for your support and patience during this period. Your coaches will be in contact with you in the coming days.

Fiona Redpath

James Christie cycled around Glenrothes and the surrounding area recently, taking door step pictures of our girls in their strips during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The girls who wanted to take part had so much fun with this and it has given us a beautiful memory of the 2020 lockdown as a keepsake.

A huge thank you to our sponsors who continue to support the teams throughout this difficult period of time.

                        Shelley Kerr Q&A Session

Last night we got the chance to have our very own question and answer session with Scotland Women's manager, Shelley Kerr.

Shelley kindly agreed to join us over Zoom to give all our girls and coaches the chance to ask questions. It was a brilliant session and one in which Shelley was very open and honest about a variety of topics related to her career, giving some sound advice to our young players.

There was a great selection of questions asked with many of the girls keen to get real advice on how to make it to the top of the game, as Shelley did. She said "Always look to improve your skills, both in football and the real world. Listen to your coaches and know that even when the training seems hard, it is all worth it in the end. Your coaches only ever want the best for you and are there to push you to help you improve as a player and a person."

Shelley ended the session by saying "It has been great to talk to you all and I thank you for letting me join you tonight. I wish you all the best for the future and hope you all stay safe during these unprecedented times."

The Under 13’s dominated large parts of what was a closely fought League Cup final against Bayside 13’s on Saturday, ultimately succumbing to a 3-1 defeat. Despite enjoying large amounts of possession and having numerous chances to score, two soft goals and an inspired performance by the Bayside keeper was their undoing in the end.

Under 13’s make history with cup final appointment

Our under 13’s have made history by being the first ever Glenrothes Strollers girl’s team to reach a cup final. The girls beat a strong Dunfermline team in their semi final tie last weekend to book their place in under 13’s East League Cup final against defending champions, Bayside 13’s, this Saturday coming (June 4th).

The girls section was founded exactly six years ago this month, so what a great way to mark the occasion by reaching a final. Let’s hope our girls can go one better and lift the trophy too! If everyone gives their all on the day, as they have done so often this season, there is every chance they will be holding the trophy come Saturday afternoon. There is no doubt that the team have the ability to beat their more fancied opponents and a chance like this doesn’t come along very often in life.

Win or lose, there is no doubt they deserve their day in the final and should be proud of just getting to the showpiece game.

The match will take place at Riverside Academy, Dundee, on Saturday with a 12 noon kick-off. If you are at a loose end this weekend why not come and give the girls your support and hopefully help spur them on to bringing the trophy back to Glenrothes.

Whatever the result, we will be having a Barbecue back at Overstenton after the game to mark the occasion – so please come along if you can. Although there should be enough to go around, you’d be best to bring your own food and drink as we will have a limited amount available.

Good luck girls – do us proud!

Under 13’s finish impressive season at Kinross

The under 13’s arrived at a rain soaked Kinross for the final game of the 2015 season and the girls knew this was a must win game to confirm an impressive fourth place finish in their first full competitive campaign.

The game got of to a quick start and the Strollers promptly found themselves one up early on when a penalty for hand ball was converted by the clinical Kerys Blyth.

Despite this set-back for the hosts they equalised soon after when some quick passing ended with a fine goal by their strong centre forward.

The pitch was starting to cut up as the first half wore on, due to the terrible conditions, but Strollers managed to find the net a further twice before the break with goals by Kerys Blyth and Brodie Clark.

Half time – 1-3

Our girls changed things up at half time with Daniela Florez going in goal and Betheney Scott moving into midfield. The latter grabbed a fourth goal for Strollers with a great run from the half way line ending up in the net with a composed finish.

The fourth goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of Kinross and the visitors went on to grab another two goals to see the game finish 1-6 to Strollers. Brodie Clark grabbed the fifth and Denver Hopkins, who had had numerous attempts on goal on the day, scored the sixth – which proved to be Strollers final goal of the season.

Kinross tried to rally in the second half but our girls stood strong, as they have done so often this season, to claim the three points and cap off a wonderful campaign.

Our girls can be proud of themselves with the way they pushed some of the other more fancied teams in the league this campaign, and can look forward to next season with confidence.

Final score: Kinross 1-6 Strollers

                        Under 13’s vs Bayside 13’s - Oct 24th 2015

The under 13’s travelled to play Bayside on Saturday in a game that would see the home side crowned Champions of the Lisa Evans League, 2015.

Strollers went into the game hoping to spoil the party, but it was a day to forget for our girls as the home side showed why they have gone the entire season unbeaten with a convincing display of clinical finishing and stout defending.

Bayside started the game very strong, using quick, crisp passing coupled with strength and determination to work the Stroller’s defence. Brodie Clark was replaced early on after a robust tackle from a Bayside midfielder saw her pick up an injury.

Despite going in 4-0 down at half time and with two injured players, our girls still tried to get their passing game going and things started to improve a little as they got back to doing what they are good at. It was all in vain however, as Bayside put Strollers to the sword in the second half with a relentless display of attacking football to score a further five goals and show why they are champions.

Both goalkeepers helped their team mates out on numerous occasions, and on another day either team could have scored a lot more. Despite the scoreline, our ‘keeper Daniela Florez made save after save to keep the score line down to single figures.

There were lessons to be learned from this game for our girls and they will be stronger for it in the long term. This result was a blip in what has been a truly remarkable first competitive season.

Well done to Bayside 13’s on winning the League and the League Cup double. Our girls are now spurred on to do similar next season.

Final score: Bayside 9-0 Strollers

Under 13’s away to Lomond Colts in local derby

The Under 13’s made the short trip to the Lomond Centre to take on Lomond Colts in the second and final Glenrothes derby of the season on Saturday. Strollers having won the previous encounter 3-0 back in April this year.

Early in the match, Strollers fell behind to a well taken free kick from just outside the box after the ball had struck Brodie Clark’s upper arm for the foul.

Lomond Colts played defensively and made it difficult for our girls to break them down but, soon after the opening goal, Strollers were quickly back in the game. Some fantastic passing and team work saw Denver Hopkins and Brodie Clark score in quick succession to see the first half end 1-2.

Strollers started the second half much better and played with far more pace. Kerys Blyth got the goal she had been seeking all afternoon to make it 1-3, and in a quick burst strollers got another from a great finish by Rachel Lee. Towards the end of the game Kerys took her chances and struck the ball from outside the box which went over the Lomond Colts’ ‘keeper’s head and into the back of the net for her second and Strollers’ fifth of the game.

Final score: Strollers 5 Lomond Colts 1

We now have a 2 week break in the season before heading into the last two games of the season to decide 2nd and 3rd place in the SWF fife/Perth league.

Strollers Girls Under 13’s played East Fife Violets at home on Saturday in an entertaining game. Each week this season has saw the girls develop and strengthen more and more as a team, and Saturday’s game was evidence of this.

Strollers were 3-0 up at half time with goals from Kerys Blyth and Brodie Clark. The second half saw strollers go four nil up with Kerys scoring a hat-trick to put the game out of sight for the opposition. Denver Hopkins played well on the left wing and was unlucky with a few attempts – the East Fife Violet’s goal keeper was outstanding on the day and saved her team on numerous occasions. On another day the margin of victory could have been much greater.

Rachel Lee got the fifth of the game and Kerys went onto score 2 more taking her tally to five for the day.

Full time score: Strollers 7-0 East Fife Violets

Strollers travelled to Kirkcaldy to play Raith Rovers on Saturday in a game where both teams played some great football, from the first whistle to the last.

Both sets of players pressured each other throughout and worked hard, coupled with some great passing when they had the ball.

After 20 minutes Betheney Scott injected a bit of pace on the wing and got the opening goal of the game. Raith Rovers equalised almost immediately with a fantastic corner that Daniela Florez couldn’t get her hands to. Five minutes before half time, Kerys Blyth got herself in a great position from a cross which landed at her feet in the Raith rovers box and she stroked the ball home to make it Raith 1 Strollers 2 at half time.

The second half saw two teams fight for every ball and an end to end display of football for 30 minutes. This had taken it out of the girls but Strollers held on with some great work from Denver Hopkins doing her captain duties and Emma Swanson and Courtney porter keeping Raith Rovers attacks to a minimum.

Final score – Raith Rovers 1 Strollers 2

What a morning at Overstenton on Saturday. Rain, rain, rain and more rain.

In what was maybe the wettest game we have ever played the under 13’s took on Letham Tangie Juniors at Overstenton park.

The first half saw some great end to end football, wit the girls working hard in the never ending rain. Courtney Porter, Rachel Lee and Ynes Kerr worked well together keeping Letham at bay.

Kerys Blyth scored the opening goal for Strollers after good old fashioned scramble of bodies in the box. Soon after, Strollers had several goal attempts but were unable to take advantage, with Shannon Reekie showing great power in her striking at times.

Half time: 1-0

The Strollers went into the second half with an increase in pace and purpose and kept Letham Tangie Juniors in their own half for almost all of the second half.

Letham put up a good challenge and Strollers had to play some good football to compete, which finally led to Brodie Clark getting the second goal, with Rachel Lee going on to get Stroller’s third. After a foul on Betheney Scott, she used her power to take a sublime free kick which ended up in the back of the net. A fantastic goal to make it 4-0.

Kerys Blyth attempted a header but it was just off target, but it wasn’t long until she fired home the fifth of the game. With some movement in positions and players giving different positions a try, this allowed Denver Hopkins to drive a ball through the middle of the defence and get the sixth goal of the game. Strollers were so dominant in the second half that their ‘keeper, Daniela Florez, never had a save to make.

Final score: Strollers 6 Letham 0

The girls were all soaked through come the end of the match, but still smiling! Well done to you all for a great performance.

Our under 11’s girls play in a non competitive league and they travelled away to play Letham Tangerines in Perth on Saturday with three new girls getting their first taste of league football.

The girls got off to a great start with a goal within the first two minutes of the game which put the Strollers on the front foot. The midfield took control of the whole game with some awesome passing form back to front. The mid-fielders and defence were on top form with a great fighting spirit, competing for every ball and driving to the line and crossing into the box for the strikers when the opportunities arrived. The new girls played good football when they came on and they looked comfortable in the game.

With this young team growing in strength and ability it the future looks good for the under 11’s squad.

                        U13’s travel to Real Fife

Our U13’s travelled through to Dunfermline to take on Real Fife for the second time in the space of a week in a game which saw both teams play with the usual pace and passion from the start. The Strollers worked hard on the day and showed their strength throughout the team in all positions.

Real Fife got an early and well deserved goal, but Strollers were quick to get back into the game and equalised with a Kerys Blythe goal. Both teams battled intensely for the whole of the first half and a second goal came for Strollers after a rebound fell to Rachel Lee and she slotted into the back of the net. Real Fife got the equaliser after a strong run straight from kick off, with the score 2-2 at half time.

All was to play for in the second half and when Betheney Scott made a run down the wing and crossed nicely into the box, Denver Hopkins stroked the ball home for Strollers third.

With both teams working hard the game could have gone either way, but Real Fife got the breaks and scored a further three goals in the closing stages taking the score to 5-3. Strollers had numerous shots on goal towards the end but it wasn’t to be their day.

Well played all the girls in what was an entertaining match.

                        Under 13’s vs Real Fife

With only two points separating the Strollers and Real Fife, this had the makings of a good game from the off.

Strollers were on the attack from the first whistle and the pace of the game was extremely fast. The girls played some great passing football but it was the pace of Real Fife which saw them grab the first goal of the game.

Strollers got straight back into the game and very quickly got the equaliser from a corner from by Denver Hopkins which was finished off by Kerys Blythe. At this point Strollers were keeping Real Fife in their half and with Brodie Clark’s pace it allowed Rachel lee to slot home the second. With good football from both teams it was always going to be a closely fought match which was proving to be the case. With good work in the midfield the ball was played to Kerys Blythe who quickly played her way through Real Fife’s defence and got Stroller’s third goal of the match.

Real Fife again showed that they are a strong side with good players and came back at us with pace to get their second just before half time.

Half time: 3-2

With such a close and competitive game there was always going to be physical challenges on the pitch but, when a two handed push from a Real Fife player was given to Real Fife rather than the other way, the Strollers parents had strong words for the ref. With the parents calmed down and the ref admitting he made a mistake the game continued.

Both keepers has some good saves but the best was from a long distance strike from Real Fife which Betheney Scott got her hands to and pushed over the bar.

The second half saw again a fast game with lots of tackles and two teams playing with passion and desire. Daniella Florez and Shannon Reekie played out of position today but worked hard along with Courtney Porter and Ynes Kerr at the back, but Real Fife got the equaliser and the game ended 3-3.

Well done all the girls fantastic football from both teams today. Strollers next game is away to Real Fife next Saturday.

Under 11’s:

In other news, the under 11’s travelled to Perth for their monthly SFA festival on Saturday. All the girls played great football and had lots of fun as usual.
The festival saw the girls play three matches against Montrose Blue, White Sox, and Forfar Farmingham Dynamos.

Under 13’s at home to Bayside

Bayside 12’s traveled through to our home ground of Overstenton park for our mid week league game and the reverse fixture from only a few days previous in which Strollers won 8-1.

Both teams started well and Bayside worked hard at defending a Strollers team who started on the attack from the start and were determined to continue where they left off from the previous game.

The Bayside goalkeeper saved a good attempt at goal from Kerys Blythe early on but, soon after, a Bayside defender handled the ball in the box giving Strollers a penalty in which Kerys Blythe stepped up to score low into the bottom right corner.

Rachel lee found some space in the box shortly after this and scored her first goal for the Strollers to make it 2-0.

The game progressed at a fast pace and both teams worked the ball well. Stroller’s Kerys Blythe scored a hat-trick in the first half and with Shannon Reekie getting a goal from a well taken corner from Denver Hopkins this took Strollers into half time five goal lead.

Half time: 5-0

The second half saw a determined Bayside team who clearly didn’t want a repeat of the scoreline in the previous game and strong tackles were being made in all areas of the park. Bayside had some good attempts at goal in second half but, equally, Daniela Florez made excellent saves with support from the Stroller’s defence.

Our girls went on to score a further three goals to end the game 8-0. With 16 goals scored in the space of five days since the season restart, our under 13’s are looking strong going into the second half of the season.

Stroller’s under 13’s next game will be at home when welcome Real Fife on Saturday.

Under 13’s first game after summer break

The under 13’s travelled through to Dunfermline to play Bayside 12’s in the first game back since the summer break. As usual, Bayside were very welcoming and competed in a fair game of football on the day.

Our girls started slowly and looked a bit rusty with not having any training over the summer but managed to find their feet and opened the scoring after 18 minutes – Denver Hopkins getting the goal. Bayside worked hard to try and get back into the game but our midfield were working equally hard and with Rachel Lee using her pace she assisted Kerys Blythe who scored a further two goals before half time.

Despite leading 3-0 at the break the girls were given stern words due to their slow start. Strollers kept their shape and picked up the pace of the game going into the second half, with quicker passing and better communication amongst each other. This lead to further goals by Betheney Scott, Brodie Clark and Ynes Kerr. Kerys Blythe used her power and shooting from outside the box to get another two goals which took her tally to four for the day.

The Stroller’s defence had to work as hard as ever to thwart the regular quick attacks by Bayside, with Courtney Porter and Emma Swanson put through their paces throughout the game.

Daniela Florez stood strong in goal, saving several great strikes from the Bayside strikers in the second half. The numerous attempts by the opposition finally paid off as they got a goal back. Despite this, the game ended 8-1 to the Strollers in what was a good workout and a terrific result in the first game back.

The under 11’s were at home to Scone in their first game since the summer shutdown where teams played some good football and, above all, had great fun – which at this age group is all that matters.

Two of our younger girls were given some game time and both did extremely well – with both finishing the game with grins from ear to ear!

Thank you to Scone for traveling down to play us and good luck for the rest of the season.

The under 11’s are next in action at the SFA Festival on August 29th.

Fundraising is essential for us as we are a charity club and we run the section on a small training fee each week.

                        East Fife back to back

Friday 19th June –

The first of our two back to back league games against East Fife 13’s saw the Strollers Girls 13’s come out 2-1 winners, gaining a valuable 3 points. It was a great game of football between two very equally matched teams.

Saturday 27th June –

In the reverse fixture against East Fife, our 13’s girls finished the first half of the 2015 season with a 4-2 defeat which saw the visitors get revenge for the 2-1 defeat only days earlier.

Despite the result, our girls played some fantastic football with great passing and movement throughout the match. Kerys Blythe showed some silky football getting our two goals, with the 2nd one flying into the top corner with the ‘keeper helpless.

Theo Mitchel played particularly well in goals for us in the first half, taking charge of her area and making some good saves.

The game finished 2-2 at the interval and out girls pushed on the 2nd half looking for a winner. Both goalkeepers saved their team mates on numerous occasions with both teams threatening to score as the half wore on, with our keeper for the second half, Daniela Florez, making three great saves to keep strollers in the game.

Brodie Clark showed her usual great stamina and skill, using her feet to great effect during the game. At the back the usual strong pairing of Emma Swanson and Courtney Porter proved they are defenders to be reckoned with, denying the opposition time and space on the ball.

Betheney Scott and Rachel Lee showed their great pace on the wing, getting through the East Fife defence a few times, only to see numerous shots saved by the good East Fife ‘keeper.

Shannon Reekie and Ynes Kerr showed good strength throughout, holding the ball up well and allowing others to get up field.

East Fife scored a great third goal and in the last couple of minutes of the game and, as the Strollers pushed for an equaliser, they grabbed the decisive fourth goal which effectively killed the game.

Overall, this was a great game of football and was a fitting end to the first half of the season. We are all proud of how well our 13’s have done so far this season, and they should be proud of themselves for all their hard work and dedication.

Great work equals great things. Well done to you all.

                        Under 13’s vs Dunfermline

Our under 13’s took on league leaders Dunfermline on Saturday and took the game to their more fancied opponents from the start, applying good pressure and not allowing the opposition time to settle on the ball.

The first goal of the game came from a defence splitting pass by Ynes Kerr which found Kerys Blythe, who finished well. Strollers continued to press and were switching the ball well using both flanks.

Despite our girls dominating most of the first half, Dunfermline managed to pull a goal back and the match was level at half time. The second half started much the same as the first, with the Strollers keeping up the tempo with Brodie Clark taking charge in the middle of the park.

Strollers defence was as solid as ever and limited Dunfermline to very few chances. The second half saw a flurry of goals and the Strollers were not to be phased by the league leaders, running out an astonishing 5-2 winners at the final whistle. The was quite possibly our girls best performance of the season so far against a strong Dunfermline side.

Due to not participating in the Lisa Evans League Cup this coming weekend, The under 13’s will take on Dunfermline all over again in their next game on Wednesday 17th June at 7pm. Here’s hoping we can secure a double win over the league leaders.

30th May 2015 – Our under 11’s had to cope with playing against a Lomond Colts team which consisted of a lot of players who were older than them on Saturday, but managed to show that they have the ability to play some great stuff for players of their age and competed well.

The under 11’s are looking for more players to strengthen an already talented team, so if you know of any girls under 11 who are at all interested in giving football a go, please encourage them to come along to training. we train on a Monday (7pm-8pm) and on a Wednesday (6pm-7pm). The first week is always free!

Our 13’s girls travelled to Perth to play in their first mid-week game against Letham Tangies in what turned out to be an end to end and hard fought game. Both teams played good stuff in an entertaining game which finished 2-2.

The girls were disappointed not to come away with the win, especially after beating the same opponents 5-1 only days earlier at Overstenton, but a draw was probably a fair result in the end.

Next up is league leaders, Dunfermline, for our under 13’s which promises to be a real good clash.

                        Under 13’s vs Letham Tangies

Our under 13’s played brilliantly today despite going down to an early goal scored by Letham’s speedy winger. The game was played in warm sunshine and our girls put in a tremendous shift for the entire match, slowly finding their rhythm and putting together some great passing moves. Two goals just before half time saw the Strollers finish the first half 2-1 ahead.

Into the second half the team showed powerful and dominating play through the midfield and managed to add a further three goals to wrap up a well deserved 5-1 win. Shannon Reekie, Kerys Blythe, Brodie Clark, Denver Hopkins and Rachel Lee all linked up well and gave each other great support with good movement off the ball. Courtney Porter and Emma Swanson both held strong positions defensively and limited a pacey Letham attack to few chances.

We had both our regular goalkeepers out today, but Daniela Florez has been showing an interest in the position and is currently doing a great job as our back up. She made some great saves today and is getting better with every game.

Well done to all the girls today for what was a tremendous performance. The hard work is definitely paying off.

                        Under 13’s vs Kinross Colts

Despite this fixture originally being drawn as an away game for our under 13’s, it ended up being played at our Overstenton home due to a half marathon being run in Kinross on the day of the match.

Our girls started a bit slower than their usual high tempo and they had to be alert against a pacey Kinross team early on. The opposition took the lead early in the match but this wake up call spurred the Strollers in to life and Shannon Reekie managed to equalise before half time.

Strollers changed their keeper at half time and, with that, a change to the game plan as well – with the girls giving a much stronger showing in the second half. Ynes Kerr scored goal of the match, and potentially goal of the season, with a strike from a defensive position that found it’s way into the top corner of the Colt’s net to put the Strollers 2-1 up.

Kerys Blythe worked well up front, with support from Denver Hopkins, Brodie Clark and Betheney Scott – with Blythe getting a second half hat-trick. Betheney Scott, playing outfield for the match instead of her usual position in goals, got herself a goal by following up a rebound and ended up in the back of the net with the ball.

Denver Hopkins found a lot of space on the wing in the second half and went on to score two goals. In defence, Courtney Porter and Emma Swanson pulled together – managing to limit Kinross Colts’ attacks to a minimum. Despite the slow start, our girls got back to doing what they are good at and saw the match finish 8-1. Credit has to be given to Kinross, however, who showed good strength and pace throughout their midfield and all their girls worked hard for the entire match.

Our under 11’s travelled to Pitreavie to take on Bayside on May 2nd. It was a great end to end game with the Strollers girls all working hard for one another throughout the match.

The more our under 11’s play, the stronger they are becoming and beginning to look like a good team as the season progresses.

Saturday 2nd May saw Strollers Girls Under 13’s take on Bayside 13’s at Overstenton for the second time this season – with Strollers having narrowly lost the last game between the two in the Lisa Evans League Cup just last month.

This league game started at a fast pace from the first whistle, and there wasn’t much let up for most of the game. Not for the first time this season, our girls demonstrated great team work and desire throughout the match with our midfield of Brodie Clark, Denver Hopkins, Shannon Reekie and Rachel Lee all working extremely hard to try and break down a resolute Bayside team.

Captain, Denver Hopkins, showed great encouragement and positive talking to her team mates on the day, and forward, Kerys Blythe, had a number of good shots on goal – being very unlucky on a couple of occasions.

As expected, Bayside tested our defence all day but Emma Swanson, Courtney Porter and Ynes Kerr all worked well together for most of the match and stayed strong. In goals, Theo Mitchell played her first full competitive game and did well.

Despite all of Strollers hard work, Bayside went on to win the game for the second time this season with a full time score of 0-3. The visitors congratulated our girls at the end of the game for the great team work and hard work they had put in.

                        Under 13’s vs Lomond Colts

Lomond Colts had a strong first half in this game against our Under 13’s but the Strollers found their form after the break and went on to win the game comfortably, 3-0.

A bizarre injury was sustained to our own Rachel Lee when she was standing off the pitch as a sub at the time. One of the Lomond Colts’ players tripped and crashed into Rachel, headbutting her in the process. It was a nasty head knock that saw Rachel have sit out the rest of the game due to feeling very dizzy and a bit sore after the collision.

Daniela Flores saved the day when she took a turn in goals, allowing Betheney Scott to go outfield and use her speed on the wing – which resulted in her scoring early in the 2nd half.

Kerys Blythe went on to finish from a corner soon after – only after a bit of confusion, when it seemed Denver Hopkins’ delivery had actually gone in. The ref thought otherwise and the game continued; Kerys was quickest to react though and prodded the ball into the net.

Courtney Porter and Emma Swanson had great games at the back, managing all that Lomond Colts could throw at them; and Brodie Clark worked as hard as ever in the middle of the park showing fantastic pace and athleticism throughout.

Shannon Reekie was unlucky on a couple of occasions when she almost broke through the Colts’ defence, showing great strength on the ball. Ynes Kerr also worked hard on the day and stood strong for the entire match.

Congratulations to the girls on a deserved victory. We also wish Jay of the Lomond Colts well, and hope her nose is OK!

A couple of weeks ago fellow league opponents, East Fife Girls, had their equipment store broken in to which saw them have most of their equipment stolen.

This cowardly and pointless crime motivated the Strollers Girls to organise an intra-squad friendly between the under 11’s and under 13’s in order to raise funds to help East Fife replace the stolen items.

Each person paid £2 on the day and the money raised will be donated to East Fife Girls & Woman F.C. to help them overcome this setback.

The under 13’s traveled to Leven to take on East Fife Violets in the league on Saturday 4th April.

Strollers took time to get into the game but were well in control for most of the match. The girls showed great passing and movement on the day, working hard off the ball for each other.

With our goalkeeper of late taking a place outfield for the match, Daniela Flores was back in goals for this game and played well.

The match finished a comfortable 11-0 to the Strollers with a number of the goals coming through Kerys Blythe, Betheney Scott and Denver Hopkins.

Despite the scoreline, East Fife gave 100% effort throughout the match and showed a lot of strength and determination right up to the final whistle.

Strollers 13’s vs Bayside 13’s – Lisa Evans League Cup

Glenrothes Stroller’s Under 13’s took on Bayside 13’s last Saturday in the second round of the Lisa Evans League Cup. The girls started the game strongly and continued in this vein for much of the match.

The visitors passed the ball well, but our girls stood up well to the pressure, closing down every pass they made. The Strollers defence played well for much of the match, with Courtney Porter and Emma Swanson mopping up a lot of long balls with ease.

The first half finished 0-0, which gave our girls confidence going in to the second half and the belief they could go on and win the game against their more fancied opponents.

The second half was played with just as much passion as the first by both teams and with thirteen minutes left on the clock the breakthrough eventually came. Brodie Clark broke away up the right wing going past the Bayside midfield and defence before slotting the ball past the visitors ‘keeper.

Bayside piled on the pressure in the closing stages as they desperately looked for an equaliser, but the Strollers held firm and had further chances through Kerys Blythe and Denver Hopkins to put the game out of sight. The game was now frantic and in the dying stages Betheney Scott tipped a well struck Bayside shot over the bar.

The home side were seconds from winning the cup tie but, in the second minute of time added on, heartbreak came for the Strollers when Bayside finally got the equaliser, tying the game and taking it to extra time.

In extra time both teams got their heads down and it was clear neither wanted to lose the game, with all the girls on the pitch giving everything they possibly could for their team mates. Agonisingly for the Strollers, Bayside got the winner with only three minutes left to play, ending our girls hopes of playing in the third round. After being seconds away from going through this was very hard to take, but this is what can often happen in cup football.

At the end of the game the Bayside parents and coaches congratulated the Stroller’s Girls for being part of such a hard fought match.

Congratulations to Bayside 13’s, and we wish them all the best for the next round and the rest of the season.

                        Under 13’s vs Raith Rovers

Our Under 13’s were at home to Raith Rovers last Saturday in their second game of the season. The girls were looking to kick on from their good start to the season the previous week, which saw them win 6-3 away to Letham Tangie Juniors.

The Under 13’s had been working hard on their fitness during training and this definitely paid off for Saturday’s game. Our girls took the game to the fancied Raith team, showing good strength and passion throughout the game. Strollers dominated most of the first half and a couple of good saves from out ‘keeper, Betheney, kept the score at 0-0 going in at half time.

Our midfield worked well, always looking to keep the ball moving forward. Strollers had a few great chances to open the scoring and narrowly missed the target on a few occasions in the second half. Despite our defence playing very well on the day and limiting the Rovers to a few chances, with ten minutes to go the away side took the lead through a rebound at a corner. Rovers went on to score a further two goals to see the match finish 0-3. This was arguably a scoreline that didn’t reflect the overall balance of play during the game but credit has to be given to Rovers for taking their chances when they came.

The game was fast and physical and it was always the case that the first goal would prove pivotal in the outcome of the match.

The Under 13’s now face another tough home match against Bayside 13’s in the League Cup this Saturday.

With a few girls hit with a sickness bug it looked as though Saturday’s under 11’s match against Hillfield Swifts would have to be cancelled. However, after discussions with the opposition they kindly offered us two of their newer players and also allowed us to field one of our younger under 13 girls in the team, in order to get the game played.

The game went well with both teams playing some good stuff. The girls are now getting used to the size of the pitch and the fitness required for 7-a-side games. Well done to all the girls and a big thank you to Hillfield for good communications and helping us get the game played.

Letham under 11’s traveled down to Overstenton last Saturday (March 14th) for our under 11’s first home game of the 2015 season. The pitch was heavy from all the previous week’s rainfall but both teams managed to settle into the game after a bit of a slow start.

Our girls worked well together on the day, showing good team work and supporting each other on and off the pitch.

Letham, like Strollers, have a very young group of girls who are finding their way in the game. Despite their age, all players kept their heads up throughout the game and played football in the correct spirit, which is what it is all about at this age group.

Our under 11’s played their first league game of the season last Saturday when they made the short trip across Glenrothes to take on Lomond Colts. The girls displayed good team work, with our defenders covering good ground and the midfield showed good support to allow our centre to drive forward on numerous occasions.

There were lots of positives to take from the game and, best of all, the girls had fun. Some said it was the best game they had played in so far and are looking forward to this Saturday’s game against Letham Whites.

Season Kicks Off for Strollers Girl’s Under 13’s

Our under 13’s girls played their first competitive match last Saturday in the inaugural game of the 2015 season. The girls traveled to Perth to take on Letham Tangie Juniors in what was a hotly contested match.

The expected first game nerves were on show by the girls in the early part of the match, partly due to them having not played a game with an official referee on the pitch before, which took them a bit by surprise. Despite this, they settled into the game and took an early 2-0 lead with goals from captain, Denver Hopkins, and Kerys Blythe.

Letham pulled a goal back shortly after and quickly followed this with an equaliser. Worse was to come for the Strollers as they lost another and ended up going off the pitch 3-2 down at half-time, in a game they had started off so well in.

After a good half time team talk our girls played far better in the second half, showing better team work and communication – which resulted in Shannon Reekie pulling the game level for us to make it 3-3. The pace of the game increased as the second half wore on, seeing the play switch from end to end.

The Strollers finally took the lead again when Brodie Clark pounced to get the fourth goal. Our girls then went on to put the result beyond doubt when Shannon and Kerys both scored their second goals of the game to see the match finish 3-6 to the Strollers.

Both teams played well on the day in what was an exciting match. This result sets our girls up nicely for their next game at home against Raith Rovers on March 21st.

                        Under 13’s Final Pre-Season Festival

Saturday 22nd February saw the Under 13’s take part in the last of the East Region SFA Winter Festivals in Perth before the 2015 season kicks off.

The girls played around two hours of football at the festival, which was played out in freezing conditions. It didn’t take long for our girls to get into their stride, with good link up play and some great vision shown throughout.

Our young squad worked hard on the day and, defensively, Courtney and Emma showed again that they are a strong partnership at the back – helping out their ‘keeper, Betheney, on a number of occasions.

Towards the end of the two hours we were down to six girls due to a couple of injuries. Despite the tiredness and the testing weather conditions, the girls kept working hard to get a goal against a very experienced Bayside team – the opposition eventually running out deserved winners.

Like many of the other players on the day, the Stroller’s girls couldn’t wait to get back into the heat of the cars to head back down the road after a great morning of football.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the SFA East Region for organising this and all the previous pre-season festivals, which have definitely helped the girls prepare for the coming season.

Our first game of the 2015 season is on Sunday 7th March, when we are away to Letham Tangie Juniors.

Saturday 7th February saw our under 11’s travel north for the second time this pre-season to play in the Perth Festival. The 7-a-side pitch felt that little bit bigger to the girls this time due to us being 3 girls down from our usual number and having to play with only six players on the field.

Despite the initial nerves, the girls played well and gave their all. Understandably, tiredness began to show, and the team struggled more in the second game of the day. However, after a short break and a team talk they were raring to go again and settled back into the style of football that they are capable of and had fun in doing so.

Well done to all who played on the day.

The under 13’s headed to Perth on Saturday 7th January to play in the East Regional Winter Festival. We were a few players short this time around due to some of the girls off supporting their favourite football teams on the day.

The girls who played showed great determination and passion throughout the festival, with our defenders Emma and Courtney helping to make our stand-in goalkeeper for the day, Daniela, feel comfortable between the sticks.

We played three games on the day against some fantastic teams. The progression of the girl’s teams in the East Region over the past few years has been incredible, with many of the girls showing great development in their ability. It really is wonderful to see girl’s football in the east developing so well.

The new Strollers Girl’s under 11’s team traveled to Perth last Saturday to take part in the East Region S.F.A. festival. Despite it being an extremely cold day and playing in what felt like sub-zero temperatures, the girls were excited to put on their new strips and play their first game as a 7-a-side team.

Most of the under 11’s played Super 5’s last season, so the size of the 7-a-side pitch took them by surprise at first. Despite this, the girls worked hard and passed the ball well, soon settling into a good playing style. They all worked hard for each other, with good positional support throughout.

Despite everyone feeling absolutely freezing, the girls had fun on the day and went home smiling.

Saturday saw our new under 13’s Strollers Girls head to Dundee to play in their first under 13’s festival.

The girls were full of excitement and nervous energy in the build up to the first game of the day, asking lots of questions. When the first game kicked off, these nerves were quickly gone as the game started at a fast tempo with everyone looking to impress and do their best. The Strollers kept to their positions well and stayed strong which increased their confidence as the game progressed, allowing them to get into a good passing rhythm creating some good chances. In the end the first game finished in a draw, partly due to some great saves from both goalkeepers.

The subsequent three games were evenly balanced affairs, with every team working hard to try and out play their opponents. The Strollers epitomised this hard work by leaving the festival undefeated.

The festival was in a great location and very well organised, helping the girls to enjoy the day – which was ultimately what it was all about. Our girls left the festival upbeat after some great performances and are looking forward with confidence to the next festival in two weeks time and the league season ahead.

A great end of season and presentation day was had by all of this season’s U9’s and U11’s players and parents today.

The girls enjoyed two hours of bubble football at the Micheal Woods centre followed by ice cream, juice and medal presentations at the local recreational social club.

The parents were encouraged to give the bubble football a go and appeared to have more fun than the kids!

Thank you to all the parents, coaches, helpers and, most of all the girls for making 2014 a great year of football and fun. I hope they are looking forward to 2015 as much as I am.

Woke up to heavy rain on Saturday, making the games look doubtful. The great Scottish weather turned on the sun, however, and it was game on for both the under 9’s and under 11’s.

The under 9’s were taken by John Hutt to super 5’s at Pitreavie, and with a few girls missing the team only had one sub. They were tired girls today but, as always, played well and worked hard for their team.

The under 11’s welcomed the Jeanfield girls to overstenton. Jeanfield brought a strong, competitive and very physical team, with both teams working hard on and off the ball. Strollers girls showed great workrate and the skill on the ball gave the game an exciting edge. The Strollers stood strong when Jeanfield used their physical edge to try to push through the midfield, making it a great game to watch. Their were many positives to take away from this game.

                        The progressive steps

Saturday saw both teams take a step up in terms of game experience, with the under 9’s playing seven-a-side and the under 11’s playing their first under 13’s friendly.

Both teams did well, worked harder than normal and pushed themselves to play the very best football they could.

Seven-a-side rules are new to our younger group who normally play five-a-side, but stood up well to the Bayside U11’s team at home. As the teams progress, these small stages are vital for them to gain confidence and learn how to play as a sevens’ team.

Under 13’s friendly against Kinross colts:

The Stroller’s girls worked at a pace they haven’t been used to and a very tired, hard working Stroller’s team came off the pitch with smiles on their faces. Many positive were taken from this game and a few were able to see that fitness at this level is vital. They worked the ball well, played together, supporting and encouraging each other throughout the game.

It was great progress for both age groups today.

Saturday Morning Football for the U11’s and U9’s

Both teams were away from home with us both playing at Pitreavie. Firstly like to thank Bayside and Dunfermline FC for welcoming us.

The U9’s took part in the super 5’s festival which is run and organised by Bayside. The team worked hard and played great football, they may of got a little distracted as they seen the U11’s turn up to start their game against Dumfermline FC, but as usual the u9’s kept their team strength and most importantly had fun playing. the u9’s team are now developing into a 7 aside team and we hope to be participating in the SFA festival next Saturday as a 7 aside team.

The U11’s took on Dunfermline FC Girls, Strollers at present have a few injuries and our latest one just last night. 2 new girls and one of the u9’s very kindly filled in and they all had a great game, as always the strollers team played like they had been playing for years as a team and the Dunfermline parents made some very kind comments about our team work and work ethic. The girls played well as a team with lots of passing and getting into space, Strollers worked the ball from back to front putting Dunfermline under pressure, but Dunfermline never gave up, they challenged every ball and worked hard.

Our captain today was Denver Hopkins who showed she makes a great Captain, giving direction, encouragement and positive comments for good play by her team mates, this earning Denver the fair play card today.

For Dunfermline we gave their goal keeper the fair play, she pulled of some great saves and kept calm and her concentration throughout the full game.

Glenrothes Strollers V East Fife Black at Overstenton park.

Always a tough game for any team after a break but Girls played well, worked hard and worked together as a team.

East Fife Black took their chances at goal late in the first half and played some good football, showing good sportsmanship.

The Strollers today had a few injuries with one girl out with a broken arm and another recovering from a broken leg. Lucy Simpson and Kelsie Hutt very kindly moved from their U9’s game to help us play our fixture, both girls fitted right into the team and Lucy worked hard down the right wing creating chances for goal – also taking some chances herself to score.

Overall it was an encouraging first game back with a few pointers to work on in training.

All girls are back to full training on Wednesday – 6.30-8pm, Overstenton Park.

The under 9’s participated in the Super 5’s football festival, organised by Bayside Girls, at Dalgety Bay on Saturday.

The girls had fantastic fun, despite it being a very cold and wet day and the u9’s girls development has now been accelerated from playing regularly.

All players played well together as a team on the day, showing good passing and finishing in front of goal.

The plan for the under 9’s now is to attend the Super 5’s every second Saturday. This will give them the opportunity to play on a regular basis and help build their skills and confidence in a match situation, as training is only one part of a player’s development.

LETHAM GIRLS vs GLENROTHES STROLLERS GIRLS

Eight of our under 11’s headed to Perth to take on an ever welcoming Letham on Saturday.

Both teams worked hard, playing on a wet and muddy pitch, with the ball at times appearing like it could hardly move on the sticky pitch.

Strollers played great football in trying conditions, using the passing skills they have been learning in training with, more times than not, the long pass having to come into play to get the game moving.

Brodie Clark showed her fitness and ability on the ball, with a run from end to end through a lot of mud and water – to get her shot on target was a task, but one she managed. Kerys Blyth showed her skill at picking out a target and using her power to get the ball to its correct destination. Emma Swanson and Courtney Porter showed that they are a defense that is going from strength to strength and who compliment each others abilities. Shannon Reekie really put in 100% effort, showing that she is thinking on and off the ball. Ynes Kerr played first half in goal to good effect, then changed to midfield and showed strength and movement with the ball. Daniela Florez and Naimh MacPherson are new to the team this year but have managed to play as if they have always been there.

There are many games are ahead of us this season and there will be highs and lows for every team. That’s football, as they say, but everyone at the Strollers Girls would like to wish all the teams in the league a great season.

We are a community club and anyone is welcome to come along to training. If you require information do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing strollersgirls@gmail.com

We have had a great run with training due to having good weather this year with no training nights having to be cancelled this allowing the girls to get consistant training to streghthen them as a team.

We had five girls make great steps towards developing their football careers through attending the East Regional advance training sessions which they have all enjoyed and spoke highly about the opportunity offered to them.

We end our season next week with the East Regional festival in Dundee, which we hope will be a great day for all the teams involved.

On behalf of all at the Strollers Girls, we would like to thank all the hard work the East Region put into organising the league and the festivals, and for being on hand for all our coaching questions.

I have been trying hard over the last year to find under 15’s coaches to take a team as many of our U13’s are to old to play U13’s next year.

Today I believe we may have found a couple of volunteers to take this on and hopefully build a team by next March to take into the U15’s league.

If you are an U15 girl and looking for a team to join in the Glenrothes area please get in touch.

Due to the opposing team having too many injuries our game was cancelled on saturday, but due to having 10 players already at the park we played a 5v5 games amongst ourselves, great work rate from all the girls with some promising talent from a few of our newer younger group.

The girls always have fun but today they should great team spirit and put into practice some of the skills we have been practising in training.

we are away from home again next Saturday to Lomond colts which the girls are all looking forward too.

East Fife visited Overstenton Park today to play a midweek league fixture with Glenrothes Strollers, both teams were going from end to end to try and score the first goal.

East Fife scored first with a great low effort from outside the Strollers box. Soon the Strollers equalised with a well worked goal between Amiee Headland and Hannah Clark. Hannah scored her first of the match from the move which put her one on one with the keeper when she finished low into the corner.

The Strollers defence coped well, with Captain Chelsea McLean making strong tackles and headers in defence. Half way through the first half Amiee Headland then dribbled round several East Fife defenders before scoring high into the net. The Strollers midfield of Abbie Cunningham, Samisha Mclellen and Amy Bunting coped well under pressure from East Fife and covering defensive duties.

Hannah Clark then scored with a strong shot inside the box, to give Strollers a 3-1 lead at the break. In the second half East Fife started strong scoring with well worked goal from midfield. They continued with their high pressure game looking for the equaliser but Megan Philp pulled of some fine blocks and saves.

Sarah Angel and Michaela Lawson supported Captain Chelsea McLean in defence well before Hannah Clark scored to complete her hat trick – scoring with a header from a corner kick against the run of play. Midfielders Amiee Headland, Billi Detheridge and Lucy McLean all worked hard in midfield in the second half but East Fife eventually scored again to make a frantic finish where Glenrothes Strollers held on for a deserved 4-3 win.

The U11’s Girls made the 104 mile round trip to play Breadalbane at their home ground.

Both teams did well and, for the first game back after summer break, they displayed a lot of spirit and good football.

As always, Breadalbane’s sportsmanship and hospitality were much appreciated as, at this age group, we are playing friendly league games in order to get more girls enjoying football.

Due to some rain the pitch was slippy which, in turn, had an effect on play with some miss kicks and missed opportunities in front of goal from both teams but, overall, the girls had fun and we got to see some beautiful scenery.

Our Captain today was Brodie Clark and the Fair Play awards went to Breadalbane’s number 11 and Stroller’s Emma Swanson.

Our next game is at home to East Fife Golds. A new team to the league, who we hope enjoy the next few month’s of football.

That’s all the teams been back at training for a over a week now, but due to many girls still being away on holiday numbers have been reduced.

The girls who have been at training this week have been doing well and working hard showing that they have been practicing over the summer break.

We have five girls at the East regional trials this week; we wish them the best of luck.

Games start next week and we are away from home to Breadalbane; an early start for us then, but we’re looking forward to getting back to a weekly routine.

The Under 9’s age group is growing in numbers with us now having 10-12 girls in this age group on a weekly basis and we continue to seek a coach to help out with this age group. It’s a great age group to work with as it’s all about fun and the girls just wanting to play.

If you want to join us as a player or coach please do get in touch.

The two Glenrothes girls teams met at Overstenton last Saturday for their first league game against each other this season on a wet, soggy pitch which saw our under 11’s take on Lomond Colts Girls.

Both teams put in a great amount of effort, with the Lomond Colts keeper pulling off some great saves and the visitors kept their shape well for most of the match.

Our girls showed a positive improvement and could be seen putting into practice a lot of the skills they have learned in training over the season. All in all, it was a good match and showed that the quality of girls football in Glenrothes is going from strength to strength.

                        Birthday celebrations all round

Glenrothes Strollers F.C. celebrated their 40th birthday on June 16th, but it was also a special day for Glenrothes Strollers Girls, as we also celebrated the founding of the section three years ago this month.

We celebrated this milestone with the under 11’s and under 13’s playing matches at Overstenton during the main 40th birthday fun day. East Fife under 11’s and Bayside under 9’s also joined us to take part in what was a great day of football.

The weather was great, but the football was even better, with the under 11’s giving the spectators a thrilling match to watch. Both teams involved worked very hard and played with a quick tempo in what was an evenly matched game, and our girls showed some great passing ability throughout the 40 minutes. Well done to Ynes Kerr, Emma Swanson, Courtney Porter, Taylor Lawrie, Denver Hopkins, Brodie Clark, Kerys Blyth, Rachel Cunningham, Chloe Headland, Charlie Davies and Demi Smith. Many of these girls who started out at Fun 4’s level 3 years ago have developed into a great team on and off the pitch.

On the same day at Overstenton, Bayside under 9’s played two ten minute Fun 4’s games against our girls and both sets of players did well. Above all, they all had lots of fun. It’s really great to be part of girls football – watching all these youngsters taking up the sport at such a young age. Well done to everyone who took part on the day.

The under 11’s girls travelled back to Perth again, Saturday past, to play against Letham. This game proved that the girls are developing well as a team and are now doing just as well off the ball as they do with possession.

A slight mix up with the rules in the first half threw our girls a little bit, but in the second half they got their flow back again and worked the ball well up the pitch on many occasions. The passing in midfield was accurate and decisive, with Kerys Blyth, Denver Hopkins, Brodie Clark and Demi Smith managing to put real pressure on a promising Letham side.

Denver Hopkins took the captain’s role on Saturday as she has shown in recent weeks she is a good motivator to those teams mates around her. In defensive positions were Emma Swanson, Taylor Lawrie, Courtney P and Rachel Cunningham; with Emma showing she has developed a great ability to move the ball up the park when required.

Between the sticks, for the first time in a number of weeks, was Courtney B – who played well. All in all, this was another good work out and encouraging performance from the whole team.

The under 11’s travelled to Perth on Saturday morning for an early kick-off against Jeanfield, with the game brought forward to allow Jeanfield under 13’s to play their cup tie.

The first half flew in with both teams working extremely hard and passing the ball well, with the Strollers Girls putting in a great amount of effort. Charlie Davies returned to the team, after being out for a short break to try out other things. Rachel Cunningham worked hard in midfield and Brodie Clark desperately tried to break through the Jeanfield defence when she could. Emma Swanson showed great determination and speed, moving the ball forward quickly on several occasions to get the Strollers up the park – proving that all the hard work in training is paying off.

Denver Hopkins, as always, showed great passion and skill throughout the game. Taylor Laurie played her first game for the Strollers on Saturday and did extremely well on her debut. In goals, Ynes and Demi shared duties and both did excellently against a very pacey Jeanfield team.

Glenrothes Strollers Girls should be commended for the sportsmanship they show week in, week out. Win, lose or draw, they always do so with dignity. Well done to all our girls; you are a credit to the club.

Stroller’s under 13’s girls travelled to play Breadalbane at Grantully in rural Perthshire last weekend in an exciting game that finished 3-2 to the visitors. The home side opened the scoring early on against the run of play when, after excellent build up play, their striker finished well. Despite the setback, Strollers kept pressing and were rewarded when Lucy MacLean’s excellent pass set up Amy Bunting to score on the stroke of half time to pull things level.

After the restart, more pressing from the visitors saw Nioni Robertson and Lauren Byers come close to add to the scoring. As the half wore on, Amy Bunting scored another two good goals to put the Strollers 3-1 ahead and complete her hat-trick.

Breadalbane came back in to it and replied with a goal five minutes from time and continued to press the visitors in the final minutes as they searched for an equaliser, but Strollers girls held on for a good away victory.

Well done to both sides for providing a great game for the spectators and coaches.

Under 11’s show good teamwork against East Fife

Despite having three of our regular players out today and being one team member down, the under 11’s put in an encouraging performance with an increased work rate needed to cope with the high tempo style used by East Fife girls.

Beccy Watt and Evanna Hynd slotted straight back into the team to make up for our missing regulars and both played extremely well. Evanna having given up her usual golf duties to help us out!

The first ten minutes of the game saw a lot of defending from the Strollers girls, but play evened out as the game progressed with both teams showing some good skill and passing. East Fife played with a lot of pace which required Denver Hopkins and Kerys Blyth to constantly pick up their opposite numbers.

Emma Swanson was played out of her usual position today but coped well; at one point going on a great run from the half way line past three of the opposition’s players.

Brodie Clark and Courtney Porter worked the right side well with some excellent tackling. Goalkeeper, Ynes Kerr, kept the team’s shape with good instruction from her goal.

Overall a great game from two very good teams.

Strollers u13’s girls drew 1-1 against Raith Rovers u13’s girls in Wednesday night’s league match at a very damp Overstenton.

Aimee Headland opened the scoring for the Strollers midway through the first half after a sustained period of pressure on the Rovers goal. Raith came back into the game well and nearly scored but were denied when Strollers goalkeeper, Megan Philp, pulled off a great diving save to deny the Rovers striker.

Raith came out determined to score in the second half but some great defending by Michaela Lawson seemed to have stopped the Kirkcaldy team from getting their goal. Five minutes from the end, however, Rovers scored with an excellent volley which cannoned in of the post to draw things level.

The Strollers midfield did well to stop any further pressure on their goal with midlfielder, Jemma Hall, making several good tackles in the middle of the park. The match ended in a 1-1 draw after good performances from both sides.

The Under 11’s Girls put in a great team performance on the road in Dunfermline on Saturday against a talented Real Fife side. Despite the weather taking a turn for the worse, both teams showed great determination and spirit to play on through the torrential rain. Both sides appeared evenly matched in what was a very exciting game to watch; one in which our own girls showed good team spirit – encouraging and supporting one another through-out a hard fought match played in horrendous conditions.

Glenrothes Strollers U13’s girls played Bayside Girls U13’s tonight at Overstenton Park in the league cup tie. Strollers had a few missed chances early in the first half before Amy Headland, Strollers central midfielder, opened the scoring for her first of 7 goals in the game.

Bayside came back with some strikes from outside the box but couldn’t make the break through. Abbie Cunningham scored for the strollers with a 20 yard strike into the top corner to make it 5-0 before half time.

After half time Bayside defended well but Lauryn Byars and Nioni Robertson went on to score 2 goals each making the final score 12-0.

A well deserved result for all the girls who tackled and passed well. Tonight’s team captain Chelsea Mclean organised the team well and there were great goals assisted from Amy Bunting and Lucy Mclean.

Glenrothes Strollers U13’s girls played Dunfermline Athletic on Wednesday night at Pitreavie. Both sides had chances first half before the Pars scored just before half time with a decent cross and a great finish.

Strollers pushed for an equaliser with a strike from captian Chelsea Maclean which was cleared off the line. Strollers Girl’s Samicha Mclellan and Abbie Cunningham worked hard in midfield to support the lone striker but could not make the breakthrough on goal.

Dunfermline went on to score two goals late in the second half to finish 3-0 winners.

It was a tough game today against a strong Bayside team; Strollers were organised quickly and worked well as a team with many good passes and great movement off the ball. The girls gave a very encouraging performance overall.

Bayside were extremely disciplined with a great defence and their goal keeper was voted by the Strollers as the fair play player for today’s game.

It was an encouraging performance from the Strollers Under 13’a tonight against Raith Rovers in the league cup.

Raith Rovers scored twice in the first half with Megan Philp, the Stroller’s goal keeper, making several good saves including one from a penalty in the first half.

The Rovers had a deserving 2-0 lead at half time, however the Strollers started the second half well hitting the bar and the post. Amy Headland then scored for the Strollers with a fine effort, before the Rovers eventually ran out 6-1 winners.

Well done to Rachel McWhaw who played her first game for the Strollers tonight.

In miserable conditions at Overstenton this morning, our under 11’s put in a strong team performance against a very good Letham under 11’s team. Key to today’s performance was the exceptional work rate by our girls coupled with good off the ball running and accurate passing.

Today’s Fair Play award was given to the Letham goalkeeper, which was also shown by their whole team throughout.

Special mention should be given to both teams for the high levels of determination shown in what was an entertaining game, despite the conditions.

We now look forward to our away game next Saturday against Lomond Colts U11’s.

It was an unlucky defeat today for the U13’s girls in the first game of their season. We were 3 nil down before Jemma Hall and Amy Bunting scored to make it 3-2, and we came close to equalising but Scone scored two goals in the last five minutes of the game.

All of the team played well and we are looking forward to Raith Rovers away from home next Saturday.
